Life is Grand

Since December of last year we have been in survival mode at home. Darren has had big challenges at school and we feel tired and overwhelmed most of the time. It's been stressful, exhausting and not fun AT ALL. As I mentioned in another post we found this place called Autism Journeys and we are pretty happy with the stuff we’re working on but it is not magic and we have had to "dig" deep down inside of us for a little extra patience *sighs*.
Daniel suggested we took a weekend off just get away from home and try to spend more time together doing fun stuff. We are trying to be frugal with our money but we REALLY needed a break so we decided to spend the weekend at a nice hotel in down town and do some fun things.
We took advantage of the long weekend and we checked in at The Grand America hotel last Friday and we stayed there until Sunday when we enjoyed of their famous Sunday brunch (holy delicious!). It's amazing how much that little "break" helped us all relax and feel energized (and also fat because we ate WAY too much).
Darren had a great time too. He loved the hotel and we spent a great amount of time exploring THE whole building.
Some places we visited: The City Library, Clark Planetarium, The Gateway, The Leonardo, Trolley Square Mall (yes, grandpa and I found the taffy shop!) and, at my request, the house inspired by Disney’s Pixar “Up” in Herriman. We also spent some time at the hotel’s indoor swimming pool :)
I also have to say, the best part was to see how many friends Darren was able to make just on the elevator. He always had funny comments to those riding with us and made sure they knew that "we were on a little vacation and staying on the 18th floor". He made friends with the housekeeping staff and waiters at every restaurant we went. He used his manners and was extremely polite. It was a pleasure being around him. This is the way I love to see Darren, excited, happy and social...
Now back to life :)
